The company has been building an application for venues – aptly dubbed WillCall Venue – to help streamline operations. The first feature of the app is called BarTab and “makes it ridiculously easy for customers to buy drinks at a concert with their WillCall accounts,” WillCall says.
Fans who’ve signed up for WillCall accounts and go to a bar running BarTab will get pinged via Bluetooth Low Energy by the venue’s BarTab-equipped iPad about opening a tab. The fan can then order drinks, give the bartender their name and charge the drinks to the credit card connected to their WillCall account.
BarTab also apparently allows for tipping and will send a fan a receipt at the end of the night.
WillCall founder Donnie Dinch told TechCrunch the company is hoping to “build out the data layer for venues so they can implement better loyalty programs and market to specific people.”
Plans to offer similar features for merchandise are in the works.
The company is currently pilot testing the app in San Francisco and New York and accepting applications from venues in those cities that wish to participate in the program.
