Industry Noize: Global Spectrum’s Canalside Contract

Global Spectrum has inked a new deal to manage Buffalo, N.Y.’s Canalside venue, the longstanding home to an annual summer concert series.

The deal will see Global Spectrum taking on operations, maintenance, programming and events for Canalside, as well as selling commercial rights and sponsorships.

Global’s Spectrum’s proposal reportedly came in under other bids and included new plans for revenue generation at the venue, which is overseen by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation Board of Directors.

“With Canalside growing by leaps and bounds, establishing a relationship with a national company of this caliber will give Canalside the opportunity to be marketed on national level and lead us on path toward sustainability,” ECHDC President Thomas Dee said. “Global Spectrum will hire local workers and utilize its national expertise to provide world-class service. Adding ‘intellectual capital’ like this – which can only come through education and job training – is key to our city’s long-term economic development.”

Terms for Global Spectrum’s deal include up to more than $1.7 million for the first year beginning in January 2014, with additional contract approved annually by the board.
