Live Shows At Adelaide Arena?

Adelaide, Australia, could get another mid-sized concert venue.

The new owners of the 8,000-capacity basketball Adelaide Arena are negotiating with the South Australian Government to remove a restriction on live entertainment on the venue.

The restriction was placed because the government wanted to protect the 12,000-capacity Adelaide Entertainment Centre, which it owns.

But Scouts SA and SA Church Basketball, who took over the Arena April 2013, are pushing to be able to hold niche shows from the Adelaide Fringe Festival and Adelaide Festival.

They further argue that government estimates indicate that the Entertainment Centre will sell 410,000 in the 2013-14 financial year – the best result since its opening year in 1991-92 when it attracted an audience of 404,000.
