Ouu, Pööriöö and Röövel Ööbik
One of the most entertaining aspects of Tallinn Music Week can be listening to English-speaking delegates trying to pronounce the names of some of the local acts on display, which this year will include Ouu, Pööriöö and Röövel Ööbik.
Having the names translated into English is of limited help as Ouu doesn’t really mean anything (in any language), although pronouncing “Equinox” is easier than trying to say Pööriöö and “Robber Nightingale” is easier than Röövel Ööbik.
Even when pronunciation isn’t a problem, delegates may question what sort of imagination came up with monikers like Carrot Lights, Elephants From Neptune, Facelift Deer, or Tenfold Rabbit.
TMW has announced 226 acts, with 149 from local Estonian talent. Tallinn Music Week is March 27-29.
