Short & Sweet: Feist, The xx, The Jim Jones Revue, Turin Brakes
These brief outings range from four to seven gigs each. Two stops take place in Canada with the rest of the gigs scheduled throughout the States from San Francisco to Northhampton, Mass.
Let’s get started with the teeniest tour of all. Feist is hitting the road on her own for a run of intimate solo shows in April. The “Mettle Tour” is apparently a punny reference to the Canadian singer/songwriter’s most recent studio album, 2011’s Metals.
Here’s the schedule:
April 7 – Halifax, Nova Scotia, Rebecca Cohn Auditorium
April 9 – Northampton, Mass., Calvin Theater
April 10 – Tarrytown, N.Y., The Tarrytown Music Hall
April 11 – Portsmouth, N.H., The Music Hall (Portsmouth Singer Songwriter Festival)
Tickets for Halifax and Northampton went on sale to the public today. Onsales are scheduled Friday, Feb. 14 for Tarrytown and Saturday, Feb. 15 for Portsmouth. Presale tickets are available for members of the email list (as of Feb. 11). For more information visit ListenToFeist.com.
The xx has revealed what the band will be up to following its residency at New York’s The Armory.
“We decided to play some shows in towns we’ve never played before, to try out some new things,” The xx announced on Facebook this week. “These shows will be in smaller venues with a stripped down production. We hope to see you there!”
Although the British indie pop band says it’s playing smaller venues, we’re guessing that that the capacity per night will probably be larger than the NYC residency. The March 19-29 residency will pack in 25 shows over 11 days, with each gig limited to 40 people.
Here’s where you can find The xx in April:
April 1 – Wilmington, Del., World Café Live
April 2 – Raleigh, N.C., Lincoln Theatre
April 3 – Athens, Ga., Georgia Theatre
April 4 – Oxford, Miss., The Lyric Oxford
April 5 – Memphis, Tenn., New Daisy Theatre
April 7 – Marfa, Texas, Chinati Foundation
Tickets go on sale Feb. 14 at 10 a.m. local time. For more information visit Thexx.info
Following a January excursion to the U.S. and Canada, The Jim Jones Revue is headed back to our side of the pond in April for a West Coast jaunt.
Plus, a new (to us) song is coming our way. Previously unavailable in the U.S./Canada, “Collision Boogie” hits our shores April 8 via iTunes from Punk Rock Blues Records.
“‘Collision Boogie is a sort of personal user’s guide to some of the things that you might come crashing into in life,” Jim Jones said. “It was originally inspired from hearing a Jamaican dancehall track blaring out of a car in East London; but by the time we had an arrangement together, it ended up with more of a New Orleans flavor.”
Before the British garage rock band hits the West Coast the act will play New York at Webster Hall’s The Marlin Room April 19 in conjunction with Paul Pope’s “Escapo” book launch.
Here’s the West Coast itinerary:
April 21 – Vancouver, B.C., The Wise Hall
April 22 – Seattle, Wash., Neumos
April 23 – Portland, Ore., Dante’s
April 24 – San Francisco, Calif., The Chapel
April 25 – San Jose, Calif., The Blank Club
April 26 – West Hollywood, Calif., Viper Room
April 27 – San Diego, Calif., Soda Bar
Tickets are on sale now. Visit JimJonesRevue.com for more info.
Last but not least, Turin Brakes has planned its first U.S. outing since 2010.
The British folk rock band has a brand new album to show off – We Were Here, released in October on Cooking Vinyl. Check out the track “Time and Money” below.
The March schedule includes two stops at South by Southwest. Here’s the plan:
March 10 – New York, N.Y., Mercury Lounge
March 13 – Austin, Texas, Palm Door on Sabine (SXSW)
March 14 – Austin, Texas, Waterloo Records Parking Lot (SXSW)
March 17 – West Hollywood, Calif., Troubadour
