Big Scary Wins AMP
Melbourne hip-hop/pop duo Big Scary’s second album, Not Art, won the 9th Australian Music Prize, the local equivalent of the UK’s Mercury Prize for most creative album of last year.
Guitarist and producer Tom Iansek and drummer and singer Joanna Syme formed in 2006.
They received a check for A$30,000 ($27,100) from record label licensing body the PPCA. The win comes as the act sets off in April to tour North America, where Not Art drops through Seattle’s Barsuk Records.
