Northside Going Up

German promoter FKP Scorpio appears to be ramping up its efforts in the Nordic market by growing its Northside Festival in Denmark.

Scorpio chief Folkert Koopmans – and local partner Brian Nielsen – are this year hoping to do 30,000 per day with a lineup headed by Arcade FireRöyksoppThe NationalQueens Of The Stone Age, and the Pixies.

The event started in front of 5,000 people in 2009.

Koopmans and Nielsen see that the Northside site at Aadalen, a couple of miles from the centre of Århus, the country’s second-biggest city and home to its biggest university, has the potential to take the festival to the top of the Danish outdoor market.

That position is currently occupied by the 75,000-capacity Roskilde Festival, but a 30,000 sellout at Northside would at least put the event up among the second tier of Danish fests such as Skanderborg, Jelling and Skive.

The other acts on the Northside Bill June 13-15 include Robyn, Lana Del Rey, Franz Ferdinand, and Rudimental.
