The project would add a boardwalk-type pavilion, concert venue and restaurant by May 2015.

“We’re excited about this and we think it will be good for the town,” Dennis Drazin, advisor of the New Jersey Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and Darby Development Sports Betting, told Wordontheshore.com. “We want Monmouth Park to be able to not just be used during the racing season but make it more like an all-year-round place to go.”

Drazin said that discussions with Live Nation and AEG reps led to the recommendation to build a new concert facility instead of hosting events at the park’s grandstand.

The estimated $10 million project would include a roof and seating for more than 7,000 patrons, the website said.

The proposed boardwalk expansion would have room for concessions, stands and added restrooms.

The Oceanport Planning Board will discuss details of the project and potential options.
