Mayor Seeks To Oust Ultra

City officials say a private security guard has severe brain hemorrhaging after being trampled by a crowd at Miami’s 2014 Ultra Music Festival.

The Miami Herald reports 28-year-old Erica Mack was hospitalized Friday night after fans without tickets broke through some flimsy fencing and trampled her to the ground.

Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado said Sunday that Mack was breathing on her own but was disoriented and confused.

He blamed the organizers of the three-day electronic music festival for failing to properly secure the venue.

The mayor planned to investigate whether a problem with fencing constituted a breach of contract that could help them push the long-running show out of Miami.

“This is something that could have been avoided,” he told CBS 4. “So in the next weeks we are going to have a discussion on the city commission level to deny the permits for next year for the event here in the city of Miami.”

Regalado has been a vocal critic of the festival, and has repeatedly said he doesn’t want Miami to host it again.

Ultra’s organizers released a statement on Sunday:

“The event organizers prohibit any form of unlawful entry in to the event grounds,” the statement read. “Preliminary investigations show that the incident was caused by individuals not in possession of event tickets and who were determined to gain unauthorized entry… The event coordinators are cooperating fully with investigative authorities.”
