Live Nation can continue to run shows in Helsinki’s  without breaking any of the U.S. sanctions against Russian businessmen. Sanctions against the Russian businessmen were brought in as a reaction to President Vladimir Putin’s decision to annex Crimea.

After checking with lawyers and the U.S. State Department, Live Nation president of European concerts John Reid told Pollstar: “Our shows at the Hartwell Arena will proceed as scheduled. The Hartwell Arena is not subject to U.S. sanctions.”

Apparently a Russian businessman has to own 50 percent or more of a company to have sanctions applied against it. Although the Hartwall Arena was last year sold to Russian businessmen Gennadi Timtshenko and Arkady and Boris Rotenberg, none of the Russians owns as much as 50 percent of the business.
