Jimmy Buffett Goes To The Drive-In

Jimmy Buffett has something in mind for the nation’s drive-in movie theaters other than Sunday morning swap-meets.  The balladeer of Caribbean sunshine will play a Fort Worth drive-in and beam the show to outdoor screens across the country.

Coyote Drive-In on Panther Island in Fort Worth, Texas, is where Buffett will appear in the flesh June 19.  The live cast will be transmitted to digitally outfitted drive-in theaters such as Lakeport Auto Movies in Paradise, Calif., Transit Drive-In in Lockport, N.Y. and the Mendon Twin Drive-In in Mendon, Mass.

It’s probably not a surprise that Buffett’s evening at the drive-in was cooked up by a couple of auto-theater enthusiasts. Coyote Drive-In owner/operators Brady Wood and Brandt Wood are the ones who hatched the scheme via their Woodhouse company, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, and worked with Austin-based promoter C3 Presents to bring the plan to life.

“There is not another artist we’d rather be working with,” Brandt Wood said.  “Jimmy has taken a personal interest – he grew up at drive-ins.”’

Buffett may not be the only one with a drive-in performance in the future.  Brandt Wood told the Star-Telegram that other digitally equipped outdoor theaters are interested in the concept and he hopes the concept will snowball into more artists playing at drive-ins for drive-ins.

Onsales for Buffett’s Coyote Drive-In appearance as well as for the live casts at participating drive-in theaters begin May 2.  Visit Margaritaville.com for more information.
