Odds & Ends: One Direction, Willie Nelson’s Tour Bus, Jay Z, Guvernment, Fish

One Direction’s South American trip results in crushed fans … Willie Nelson’s old tour bus on the auction block … Prisoner sues Jay Z, Beyoncé, Kanye West and others for stealing his songs … A pox is on Fish’s U.K. tour … Toronto’s Guvernment/Koolhaus shutting down.

They really love One Direction in Lima, Peru.  So much, in fact, that at least 47 concertgoers were injured when the audience surged towards the stage in an attempt to get up-close-and-personal with the lads.

The U.K.’s Daily Mail reports that hundreds were crushed during the “frantic surge to the stage.”  Members of the boy band evidently asked the audience to calm down but the newspaper reports their pleas “fell on deaf ears.”

Several members of the audience were reported to have been treated for symptoms of asphyxia – a malady caused by abnormal breathing and resulting in a subnormal amount of oxygen entering the body.

Medical responders turned tents into emergency medical treatment areas following the incident and the local fire department initiated an emergency evacuation plan.

The adoration wasn’t limited to the stadium.  Approximately 250 fans gathered in a small square in downtown Cusco outside the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas hotel where the boys were staying.  After police failed to force the crowd to disperse, the group relocated to other, presumably secret, lodgings.

A 1983 Eagle tour bus formerly used by Willie Nelson is up for auction on Craigslist.

Described as getting 7 mpg “with the generator running” the bus sleeps “about 8+” and is reported to be in “great working condition without any issues.”

An inmate at California State Prison, Corcoran, has filed a $2.4 billion lawsuit against Jay Z, Beyoncé, Kanye West, Rihanna and Chris Brown, claiming the mega-stars stole his songs.  What’s more, he claims they did it with the help of law enforcement officials, including members of the F.B.I., C.I.A. and Homeland Security.

Richard Dupree is the felon claiming damages, according to media site Re-Tox.  Dupree claims the hit-makers utilized satellites in the larceny and that they “robbed [him] for hundreds of millions, even billions, in the satellite organization.”

Looks as if The Guvernment and Koolhaus Entertainment Complex in Toronto, Ontario, will end its 17-year run Jan. 31.  While The Guvernment gained notoriety through various music events, including ones branded as “Freedom,” “Decadence,” “Thriller” and “Labour Of Love,” the Koolhaus has hosted many top tier acts, including Prince, The Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and Lady Gaga.

Expect a proper farewell to be put into play during the weeks leading up to the venue’s closing.

“We’re speaking to all key people and we’re not going to go out on anything other than a massive bang” INK Entertainment CEO/founder Charles Khabouth said.

But Skinny Puppy and frontman Ogre haven't lost the knack for mutant showmanship, proving it to a Kool Haus crowd in Toronto.

Former Marillion singer Fish rescheduled three United Kingdom shows after guitarist Robert Boult came down with chickenpox.

“Robert arrived at the studio on Monday and was obviously unwell,” Fish said  “On Tuesday he started to come out in a serious rashm which has worsened in the last days.  He is still infectious but luckily all the rest of the band and crew have already had chickenpox and are relatively safe.  There is however a potential risk to members of the general public who, like Robin have not contracted the disease before and with adults the infection cannot be treated lightly.”

Shows scheduled for Durham, Liverpool and Sheffield have been moved to September and December.  Fish’s next gig is scheduled for May 6 in Wolverhampton.  Click here for the updated schedule.
