Solange Knowles, Jay Z and Beyoncé have made their public apologies about the elevator incident without going into much detail, but sources have offered up theories as to what happened.

It all comes down to a clothes designer named Rachel Roy, sources told the New York Daily News.
Roy is the ex-wife of Damon Dash, who was once a business partner to Jay Z. Solange thought her brother-in-law was getting “too close” to Roy, sources said.
After allegedly having words with Roy, Solange got physical with Jay Z. Dash reportedly had a falling out with Jay Z a few years ago.
And that’s about as far as we’ll report on this, other than to say fighting someone on an elevator is wrong on so many levels. Maybe the opportunity to use that bad pun was the only reason why we cared about this story in the first place.
