More Than One Scalper

Scalpers have gained access to the online reservation system to obtain tickets for the One Direction concerts March 21-22 at the SM Mall of Asia in Manila, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

One anonymous source told the news outlet that a scalper had contacted him with reservation codes for 10 VIP tickets. The scalper wanted the source to advance money to buy the tickets at 17,950 pesos ($412) each, after which he would sell them at higher prices and split the profits with the source.

The article implies that scalpers with inside connections can get their hands on more tickets.

Though the second One Direction show was reportedly added due to demand, a music insider told the Inquirer that two shows were originally scheduled, and a different source confirmed that the local promoters made an initial bid for two concerts.

While the $3 million cost for the two shows is a bit high for the promoters, they were helped by an anonymous financier, “one of the richest men in the country,” to guarantee the fee.

As part of the deal, One Direction will gain a share of ticket sales after the break-even point.
