Pinkpop Kick-Starts Dutch Summer

Pinkpop gave the Dutch major festival season a kick-start when selling out its 70,000-capacity site at Landgraaf June 7-9.

The sellout was no big news, as tickets went on sale three months ago and were all snapped up within 25 minutes. The headliners were The Rolling StonesArctic Monkeys, and Metallica.

Pinkpop founder Jan Smeets was particularly pleased the Live Nation-run event attracted 134,000 unique visitors, given that 32,000 people bought three-day tickets. He was also pleased with three days of bright sunshine, even if rain delayed Metallica’s show on the final day and caused him to break his curfew.

Lowlands Festival, LN’s other regular major Dutch festival, has also sold out.

The Aug. 15-17 lineup includes Queens Of The Stone AgeKaiser ChiefsThe Black KeysFoals, and Damon Albarn.

The other acts on the Pinkpop bill included Arcade FireHaimJoe BonamassaBastilleLimp BizkitRudimental, and Paolo Nutini.
