Cyrus, Grande Win Big At Japan VMAs

The MTV Video Music Awards Japan, June 15 at Maihama Amphitheater in a suburb of Tokyo, was hosted by veteran J-pop singer/producer TM Revolution, along with Sayumi Michishige of the female idol collective Morning Musume.

Highlighted performers included pop metal supergroup Glay, queen of cute Kyary Pamyu Pamyu, and virtual pop star Hatsune Miku.

The all-male R&B dance group  won best male video for “Blue Dragon.” Miley Cyrus was selected for best female video for “We Can’t Stop” and the best group award went to Momoiro Clover Z for “GOUNN,” with Ariana Grande bagging best new artist for “Baby I.”

Other non-Japanese winners included OK Rocks for best rock video and Lady Gaga for her single “Applause.” All the rest of the awards went to J-pop acts, including two awards for Kyary. Best video, again, went to Exile, who beat out Katy Perry, Lady Gaga and eternal favorites Mr. Children and Namie Amuro.
