EMI China Returns

Universal Music Group International CEO Max Hole has made good on his promise to boost attention for Asia by reviving the EMI China label.

Though the label has been out of service for more than five years, Universal acquired it in 2012 and has been investing in it ever since.

The re-launch in late June at a press conference was marked by the signings of Mandopop stars A-Mei, Show Lo and Rainie Yang.

Music Week quoted Hole as saying that EMI has always had a very strong “heritage” in the region.

The label will be run by Sunny Chang, head of Universal Music Greater China. Universal Music Asia Pacific president George Ash called Chang “the best music man in China.

With his leadership and incredible team we are committed to building EMI into one of China’s great domestic labels once again and a central part of a vibrant and internationally successful Chinese music industry.”
