George Riddle Dies

George Riddle, 78, who began his career in music alongside George Jones, died of throat cancer July 19.

Riddle was the original Jones Boy, playing with Jones when it was just the two of them. He later backed Jones with the rest of a band and was a regular fiddle player at the Grand Ole Opry. He also penned 13 songs for Jones, along with songs performed by Ray Charles, Tammy Wynette, Mickey Gilley and others, according to Tasteofcountry.com.

His latest endeavor was hosting a classic country radio show on Indiana’s WCJC 99.3 FM.
