It had drawn on a 2012 police interview in which the promoter was quoted saying he had not paid acts including Fleetwood Mac and Lenny Kravitz and avoided tax.

McManus later denied the article’s claims, calling it “defaming and character damaging.”

He attacked writer Kate McClymont for “gutter journalism by a bottom feeder” for allegedly not contacting him for comment. In a subsequent interview in July with the Melbourne Herald Sun,

McManus pointed out the police interview was done during a time during which “I was on a lot of morphine, I was drinking, and I was not in a good place.”
