Changes: Aerosmith, Primus, Twin Shadow

Aerosmith cancels Wednesday’s show in Corcord, Calif., because of illness … Tool’s Danny Carey is filling in for Primus drummer Tim “Herb” Alexander … Twin Shadow postpones his fall tour.

Aerosmith hasn’t released much information about why the band couldn’t take the stage at the Concord Pavilion, other than saying it was “due to illness.”

A statement posted on Facebook Wednesday goes on to say, “The band regrets not being able to perform for their fans. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.”

Meanwhile, TMZ is reporting that drummer Joey Kramer “had heart complications Tuesday.” Apparently members of the crew told the gossip site that the musician “will undergo heart surgery” and that Saturday’s show in Quincy, Wash., at Gorge Amphitheatre will also be called off.

Pollstar reached out to the band’s publicist, who said, “We have no further information at this time.” The publicist noted that the statement posted on Facebook was the only one that had been issued “thus far.”

Primus will be able to play Riot Fest in September thanks to some help from Tool drummer Danny Carey.

Earlier this month Primus called off a handful of dates while drummer Tim “Herb’ Alexander recovers from “a bypass procedure to remove blockage from arteries near his heart.” The band had promised to make a special announcement in the near future about its Riot Fest appearances.

Turns out the future is today. Carey will take over the drum kit at Chicago’s Riot Fest Sept. 14 as well as the Denver edition Sept. 19. He’ll also play Sept. 14 at Chicago’s Concord Music Hall.

“The mighty Tim ‘Herb’ Alexander is a polyrhythmic Viking of extreme and unique talent so the one person that we thought could step into his shoes and do it justice is the one and only Mr. Danny Carey,” Primus frontman Les Claypool told Rolling Stone. “Whereas Herb is the stocky, Easter Island-faced, boulder of a drumming human, at nearer to seven feet, Danny Carey is the mighty redwood tree of percussion; towering over his kit like a golden-haired noble sequoia.”

Primus says Alexander is expected to return to the stage Oct. 22 in Philadelphia.

Twin Shadow is taking some time off so he can tend to “a lot of really great things going on behind the scenes.”

The synthpop singer announced Wednesday that the fall North American “Eclipse Tour” is being postponed and new dates will be announced in September.

“While the band is more then excited to get out on the road and see you, there have been more then a few moving parts, leading us to re-evaluate the time that we launch our North American Eclipse Tour,” Twin Shadow posted on his blog.

“As our ambitions with the live show and the music grow, we want to make sure we get it right. There is a lot of really great things going on behind the scenes of Twin Shadow that I want to tell you badly about, but we need to take some time to make sure everything settles perfectly.”

Twin Shadow will still be making several festival appearances during the next few months including Leeds and Reading, Bumbershoot and Corona Capital.

As for the postponed dates, fans can either request refunds at point of purchase or hold onto their tickets for the rescheduled shows.
