Sammy’s Rockin’ Island Bar and Grill is apparently a pretty popular place in town, and Roseville officials reached out to Hagar to gauge his interest in operating the restaurant after it closed. Hagar told the Sacramento Bee the city reminded him of his hometown of San Bernardino, and said taking over the restaurant made sense.

“When I first drove down main street, I was like, ‘Welcome home, Sammy,’ ” he said. “The old movie theater, the five and dime store. It had that old feel. And there’s nothing better than to go to a town that isn’t all jaded and has fine dining around every corner.”

The Red Rocker’s sons will run the restaurant, the paper noted, but Hagar isn’t keen on being a silent investor in the property.

“I have a hard time just letting people doing things,” he added. “The next thing you know I’ll be running the damn thing.” He’ll also be performing at the location.

Hagar plans to play about 30 unannounced concerts a year at the restaurant, the Bee said. This isn’t Hagar’s first foray into the restaurant world. He owns a number of nightclubs and restaurants.
