Next year’s festival  marks Rock am Ring’s 30th anniversary and takes place June 5-7, with tickets going on sale in October when the lineup will be unveiled. The festival’s twin Rock Im Park in Nuremberg will take place the same weekend.

The new site in Mendig lies in the east of the Eifel, a landscape formed by volcanoes, and can accommodate more than 85,000 fans, according to festival promoter Marek Lieberberg Konzertagentur, which recently came out victorious in a court battle to use the festival’s name at a location other than its longtime home at the Nurburging racing track.

A new festival called “Green Hell” will take place at the Nurburgring, organized by DEAG chief Peter Schwenkow and a festival team of Wizard Promotions chief Ossy Hoppe, son Oliver and recently acquired UK promoter Stuart Galbraith.

Lieberberg seems happy with the outcome of both the court ruling and the new site.

“It was the unique character of the festival area and the enthusiasm, commitment and competence of the responsible parties that tipped the scale in favour of Mendig,” said the MLK chief. “Free of restrictions with regard to space and topography, we will now be able to offer the fans an even better festival.”

“The ridiculous claim by competitors to kidnap the tradition of our festival and their allegation to continue it blew up in their faces,” he said previously.
