With 4,000 delegates and 2,500 media reps descending on the city, the BCEC prepped for its largest-ever event with 100 km of cabling, 100,000 meals and 25,000 kilos of meat, poultry and vegetables. But the Summit had an early flow-on for the AEG Ogden-managed venue, reported GM Bob O’Keeffe.

The 115 conferences held in 2014 was a 22 percent rise from the previous year. These covered medicine, horticulture, applied linguistics, science, energy, politics, business and agriculture. August and September delivered 223 events at the BCEC with 35 conventions drawing 15,000 delegates and a A$39 million ($34.2 million) economic boost to Brisbane.

“The G20 is a catalyst to build on our already strong track record of hosting international scientific, technology and business events and the heightened awareness of Brisbane and its scientific and research credentials will help attract these key sector conferences,” O’Keeffe said.
