Werchter’s Positive Move
Live Nation Belgium chief Herman Schueremans has moved his Rock Werchter festival forward by one week to fit in with the tour plans of one of his headliners.
Live Nation Belgium’s Herman Schueremans accepts the “Promoter’s Promoter” Arthur Award at ILMC March 8, with CAA's Emma Banks pictured. Other winners were Glastonbury (festival), Coda’s Rob Challice (agent) and ITB’s Barry Dickins (Bottle Award).
Since it started in 1976, the festival has always been staged on the first weekend of July, but the 2015 dates will be June 25-28.
Schueremans isn’t saying who the mystery headliner is, but he did tell Pollstar: “It’s a positive thing. I moved it with pleasure.”
The 88,000-capacity festival, the largest on mainland Europe, has been shortlisted for Pollstar’s International Music Festival of the Year award. Schueremans has been shortlisted in the International Promoter of the Year category.
The lineup for this year’s Rock Werchter included Metallica, Arctic Monkeys, Pearl Jam, Kings Of Leon, Pixies, The Black Keys, Ellie Goulding, Damon Albarn, and Skrillex.
