Citing Health Concerns, Lykke Li Announces Break
In a statement released to Laneway Festival, Li explains, “It’s been a long time coming, but unfortunately tour life has caught up with me and it’s been recommended that I take a break.” She assured fans that she would return to the road and said she hoped to “make it up to you at a later date.”
Li was scheduled to play Laneway events in Australia, New Zealand and Singapore. In addition to sets at the festival, she was also supposed to do a few sideshow gigs, including Melbourne’s Forum Theatre Jan. 29 and Sydney’s Opera House Feb. 2. Refunds are available for the sideshow dates.
As for Laneway Festival, 18-year-old rapper Tkay Maidza is filling several of the vacant spots on the itinerary. He’s been added to all five Australian stops: Adelaide, Brisbane, Fremantle, Melbourne and Sydney.
Li expanded on her message to fans with the following post on Instagram:
“I am utterly devastated, sometimes we push and push but the body simply won’t follow. I gave it all I had, my body, heart and soul. After 7 years of touring my health is screaming/begging for me to listen/heal/slow down. Thank you so much for understanding. Thank you for listening to my bleeding heart and watching me dance in the dark these past years. I love you. I will come back. Stronger. But for now my loves, I have to rest. U can’t always ‘win’…. Take care of yourselves!!! You mean the world to me. Choose light and life! Life is ebb n flow, high n low. But we keep on. I will miss you so.”
Li had been touring in support of her third studio album, I Never Learn, which was released in May 2014.
