Charles Attal of Austin-based C3 Presents told the Austin Chronicle that the mistake they made when they took over Australia’s Big Day Out was to continue running it as a six-city touring festival. 

“We should have gone into Melbourne and Sydney, probably, and branded it that way,” he said, adding that the days of touring festivals “are moving on.”

Capital C: Concerts added classical chart toppers Sol3 Mio to Elton John’s Nov. 21 show at Wellington’s Westpac Stadium. The NZ act’s 2014 tour was a sellout.

Westpac Stadium canceled two New Zealand appearances in April citing “logistical reasons.” The shows in Christchurch and Auckland were expected to kick off the Australasian leg of her Resurrection World Tour.

Auckland live music venue The Montecristo expands into comedy, chosen as a major venue for the NZ International Comedy Festival April 23 to May 16. The Legendary Count Basie Orchestra brings its 80th anniversary celebrations to New Zealand with four theatre stops May 25-28.
