Jahnke Honoured For Jazz Nights

Well-known Hamburg-based promoter Karsten Jahnke has been honoured for his Jazz Nights, the 15-year-old annual concert series that he organises throughout Germany.

He was announced as the winner of the PRG Live Entertainment Awards’ Jury Prize at a special press conference at Frankfurt’s Gibson Club March 16, the launch for this year’s LEA Awards, which will be staged in the city’s Festhalle April 14.

The Jury citation says the 77-year-old promoter “keeps a valuable musical genre alive in an attractive way”. Jahnke is no stranger to collecting awards, having previously won various LEAs and an ILMC “Promoters Award” in 2002, and may be up for another of this year’s LEAs. He and Cologne-based promoter Peter Rieger have been shortlisted for the Arena Tour of the Year award for their work of Peter Gabriel’s “Back to Front” tour.

It’s traditionally a tough category and this year’s other nominations include Semmel Concerts (for the “Unplugged” tour by The Scorpions), FKP Scorpio for Ed Sheeran (“X”), and the Marek Lieberberg Konzertagentur for “The 20/20 Experience” with Justin Timberlake. Nominations for Promoter Of The Year include Manfred Hertlein Veranstaltungs for Andreas Gabalier, Hansi Hinterseer, Rock Meets Classic, and Angelo Branduardi, Semmel Concerts (BAP, Howard Carpendale, and The Scorpions) and Ossy Hoppe’s Wizard Promotions (Lady Gaga, Black Sabbath, Bryan Ferry, and Trans-Siberian Orchestra).

Club venue of the year is between Blues Garage in Isernhagen, which was last nominated in 2009, Bochum Zeche (last nominated in 2010) and Rosenhof in Osnabrück, which is shortlisted for the first time. The other nominations and winners will be announced at the awards night. This year’s 10th anniversary LEA Awards are expected to draw 1,300 guests from the German and international music businesses.
