Paul McCartney To Play For Robin Hood

Paul McCartney will be performing in the U.S. before his June 19 gig at the Firefly Music Festival in Dover, Del.  The former Beatle and his band will play a special charity gig in New York in May.

Macca’s “Out There” tour resumes in late April with a run through Japan followed by dates in the United Kingdom and Europe.  Up until this week, the only U.S. date on McCartney’s upcoming itinerary was his June 19 stop at Firefly.

Coming up a bit sooner than the Firefly performance is the annual benefit for the Robin Hood Foundation set for May 12 at the Jacob Javits Center.  Every dollar raised by the benefit will go to support the most effective anti-poverty programs throughout the five boroughs.

This won’t be the first time McCartney has performed for Robin Hood. The organization spearheaded 12-12-12: The Concert For Sandy Relief at New York City’s Madison Square Garden that featured McCartney, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Roger Waters, The Who, Kanye West, The Rolling Stones and many others and raised more than $50 million for organizations aiding victims of Hurricane Sandy in New York, Connecticut and New Jersey.

“I know that with Robin Hood 100 percent of the money raised goes right to the organizations helping people on the edge,” McCartney said.  “As an honorary New Yorker, I’m proud to help Robin Hood continue their efforts to help the neediest people get the support and tools they need to build better lives for themselves and their families.”

Obviously this isn’t your typical concert and ticket prices for these charity events tend to run a bit more than they do for most shows.  But if you’re looking to see a legendary entertainer live on stage while at the same time have your ticket money support a worthy cause, email [email protected] for more information.
