Jazz Musicians Gather In Paris For International Jazz Day
World musicians have gathered in Paris for International Jazz Day, to celebrate the city’s place in jazz history and bring people together in a capital still tense after January’s terrorist attacks.
UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Dee Dee Bridgewater, Dianne Reeves, Al Jarreau, and Marcus Miller are among American jazz stars performing at a concert meant to be the highlight of International Jazz Day celebrations Thursday. The lineup will also have a strong international contingent.
The day kicks off with a welcoming ceremony at Paris City Hall, followed by education programs and performances in all 20 districts of Paris. The city’s jazz history dates back to when African-American troops in World War I brought the music to France.
