Now it appears as if the singer will have to undergo the knife to solve his medical predicament.  Smith posted a message on Instagram indicating he’d be out of action for up to 8 weeks.

“Dear all: I am very upset to announce I have been battling to get my vocal cords better the last 10 days but unfortunately they haven’t recovered and I am going to need surgery.  I’m so gutted to be missing all the shows and events I was meant to be playing at.  The doctors say I will be back in 6-8 weeks and cannot wait to sing for you all soon.”

As of post time a complete list of postponed or canceled shows had not yet been made public. With several European festivals listed on his May-June schedule, Smith’s upcoming U.S. dates included in Gulf Shores, Ala., May 15 and in Las Vegas May 16.  European festivals included the United Kingdom’s June 7; and Norway’s June 11 and Netherlands’ June 14.

Smith was also scheduled to appear at Denmark’s June 12.  In announcing his cancelation, Northside organizers said they are searching for a new act to take his place.
