Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings Give Us Fall Gigs
Sharon & Co. hit the road with Tedeshi Truck Band last week, starting with a handful of gigs in the Golden State.
“California, we had such a great time last week that we are coming back to see you in October!” Jones posted on Facebook and Twitter.
Dates with Tedeshi Trucks Band are scheduled through August. Tonight you can find the tour in Salt Lake City. Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings also have a bunch of festival appearances to do, including Gathering Of The Vibes in Bridgeport, Conn., July 31 and Telluride Blues & Brews Festival in Colorado Sept. 19.
The group is continuing to support its sixth studio album, 2014’s Give the People What They Want.
In its review, All Music writes, “Jones and her band manage to touch on everything from early-‘60s horn-heavy dance-craze soul sounds to the slightly psychedelic flutter of the sublime lazy Sunday ballad ‘Making Up and Breaking Up (And Making Up and Breaking Up Over Again).’ These ten songs sound almost designed to be played on repeat, and keep with the always colorful and ecstatically fun sound audiences have come to expect from one of the best acts going in retrofitted classic soul.”
Of course, the songs really come to life in a live setting.
