Viet Cong Tackles The World
It’s been an exciting year for Viet Cong members Matt Flegel (bass/lead vocals), Mike Wallace (drums), Scott Munro (guitar), and Daniel Christiansen (guitar). The band’s self-titled debut album arrived in January and the group has gathered much praise for their shows supporting the disc. Fans have also been very receptive of the new music, resulting in many sold-out gigs. Here’s a taste of the album via the video for “Continental Shelf.
It’s pretty hard to miss all the festivals Viet Cong is playing this year when you eyeball the itinerary, what with stops at Festival D’été de Québec (July 17), Chicago’s Pitchfork (July 19) and Montreal’s Osheaga (July 31) plus other massive multi-day music events. But what the routing doesn’t tell you is that Viet Cong’ members are curating the Sonic City Festival in De Kreun, Belgium, Nov. 21-22. Previous curators include Liars, Deerhoof, Dalek and James Holden. So far the lineup includes Chelsea Wolfe, Metz, Lightning Bolt, Suuns + Jerusalem In My Heart, Protomartyr and Shabazz Palaces.
