X Guitarist Billy Zoom Diagnosed With Bladder Cancer
This isn’t the first time Zoom has battled cancer. The Los Angeles punk pioneer was successfully treated for prostate cancer in 2010 and was pronounced “all clear” after undergoing a radical prostatectomy.
Although the 64-year-old musician will begin chemotherapy next week, the guitarist will join his bandmates when X performs its four-album shows at The Observatory in Santa Clara, Calif., July 9-12, where the group will be joined by The Blasters and Mike Watt. X plans to tour as planned with a guest guitarist who will be named at a later date.
You can help Zoom beat the cancer. X manager Mike Rouse has set up a GoFundMe account to help with medical costs.
Here’s the statement from X:
In the music community, we all take turns helping each other.
Punk rock and benefits: you name the cause, and the bands and fans will be there.
Now it’s our turn to help Billy Zoom, the wittiest, smartest, nicest, best guitar player and friend we know. We would do anything to help him get better, help take care of his family, and lessen his woes.
Please keep Billy in your prayers and send some positive energy his way!
Donating a few bucks will take away some of his financial stress and worry.
And it’s the punk rock thing to do.
