Glen Hansard Rambles Through November

Glen Hansard has much to celebrate this year. Not only is The Frames marking its 25th anniversary, but the Irish singer/songwriter has a new solo album coming out. Tickets go on sale this week for a fall tour in support of the LP.

Didn’t He Ramble is due out Sept. 18 as the follow-up to his solo debut, 2012’s Rhythm and Repose. Hansard recently released a video for the track “Winning Streak.”

He told NPR, “‘Winning Streak’ is simply a well wish to a friend, to someone who’s been finding it hard to see the goodness in their lives. It’s a pat on the back and an encouragement to try [to] see the good and a blessing in the everyday. Each day we’re alive is a day we can reinvent or look at life from a different perspective. Nothing changes until we do, so it’s a song of encouragement to see these things and act on them.”

Pre-orders of Didn’t He Ramble come with an instant download of “Winning Streak.”

The Frames commemorated its 25th anniversary by releasing Longitude, a collection of tunes from throughout the band’s career. You might notice that “Falling Slowly,” which was featured in 2007’s Once and won an Academy Award for best original song, is not included.

Hansard says, “We put together a few different versions, including a certain number of songs from each record and including more popular live and radio songs – but this felt forced and incongruous.  After many conversations amongst ourselves we decided it should simply be a collection of our favourite tunes, songs we would be happy to put on a mix-tape for a friend.”

Longitude is available now digitally as well as in record shops in Ireland, Australia and New Zealand. The physical release for the rest of the world is scheduled July 31.
