Promoter Kicks Band Off Of Stage

It’s not every day that you see a promoter stop a show, tell the band to go home and apologize to the audience, saying he will refund their money.  Guess it just wasn’t a good night for Finley Quaye.

You might remember Quaye from the 1990s when he won Brit and MOBO awards.   NME points out that his best known songs are “Sunday Shining” and “Even After All” and that his Maverick A Strike album has been certified multi-platinum since its 1997 release.

Video making the rounds shows Quaye and his band apparently trying to adjust the sound during a gig at the Convent Club in Gloucester, England.  Promoter Matt Roberts is the man who pulled the plug, saying the band missed its sound check earlier that day.  But be careful.  Robert’s words may be borderline NSFW.

Apparently it’s been rough going for Quaye since his ’90s dance with fame.  He was found guilty of aggravated assault in 2012, reports NME.  In what appears to be a 2014 posting, the singer told music blog Loft965.com that he had been homeless for eight years and asked if any fans could rent him a place to stay.

“I have 22 teeth left at 40 years of age and unable to sing or smile and have been unable to smile for the past 10 years and unable to afford treatment,” he said. “Have been drug and alcohol free for 90% of the past 10 years, in recovery since 2000.”
