Outside Lands Set Canceled Amid Ticket Incident
Fantastic Negrito (real name Xavier Dphrepaulezz), his intern and a friend were stopped and cited Aug. 8 after police received a tip the men had posted wristbands for sale on Craigslist and were trying to sell them on a street corner, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
While Fantastic Negrito and his friend denied any involvement, the intern reportedly confessed to selling a wristband.
“I write songs. I perform. I play the guitar. I play the keyboard,” Dphrepaulezz told the Chronicle. “I don’t do wristbands ever.” Though police said they detained the men for 90 minutes, Dphrepaulezz claimed they were detained for three hours – even after the intern confessed, the paper noted.
Police added they had no role in a decision to cancel Fantastic Negrito’s slot at the festival during that time.
Outside Lands said in a statement that “in all circumstances, we are most concerned with the safety and security of our attendees, artists and staff. We continuously look to protect and maintain the integrity of our credentialing system, and are so sorry that the artist was not able to perform due to this unfortunate breach.”
Fantastic Negrito responded via Twitter. “I take the high road @sfoutsidelands you all worked hard to put this together. It was a mistake a misunderstanding and the fans lost.”
