Savoy Brown Has ‘The Devil To Pay’

Celebrating 50 years of electrifying the blues, Kim Simmonds & Savoy Brown will release an album of new material next month and back it a special release concert along with dates through December.

“When I started the band back in 1965, the concept was to be a British version of a Chicago blues band,” Simmonds said.  “And the exciting thing now is that vision is still alive.”

Five decades later finds Simmonds, along with his Savoy Brown comrades Pat DeSalvo on bass and Garnet Grimm on drums, still celebrating the blues. The group’s new album – The Devil To Pay – drops Sept. 18 on Ruf Records.  To commemorate the disc’s arrival Savoy Brown will perform at B.B. King Blues Club Sept. 15.

Simmonds & Savoy Brown, along with bands such as Fleetwood Mac, John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers and Yardbirds, brought blues to the masses during the ’60s.  Having formed Savoy Brown while still a teenager, Simmonds and the band opened for Cream’s first London show and quickly grew an audience through live performances.  Befitting the band’s history, you’ll find Savoy Brown on Hollywood’s Rock Walk Of Fame, New York’s Blues Hall of Fame and Toronto’s Blues Hall of Fame.
