Hockey fans who carry purses or other bags to Joe Louis Arena in Detroit will soon have to switch them out for clear bags within certain size restrictions or return them to the car before entering the arena, the Red Wings announced.

The Detroit Red Wings provides helpful examples of acceptable accessories after the NHL team adopts a “clear bag” policy for carry-ins to Joe Louis Arena.

Beginning with the Sept. 23 preseason match against the Chicago Blackhawks, fans will be able to carry in only bags or containers that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and no larger than 12 by 6 by 12 inches. For those unconcerned with fashion, one-gallon Ziploc bags are acceptable.

However, the venue will permit small clutches of 9 by 6 inches. The policy is in line with that of the National Football League, which has disallowed large purses, backpacks and the like since last year – but teams will sell you an acceptable clear container for $20.

According to the Red Wings’ website, a clear plastic tote with the team’s logo would only set you back $7.99.
