Janelle Monáe, White House push voter registration

Singer Janelle Monáe has some advice for people who avoid registering to vote: Don’t treat it like going to the dentist or the DMV.

Monáe teamed up with the White House on Tuesday to motivate more people to register. She joined a conference call in honor of National Voter Registration Day.

Monáe says that as an artist, there’s nothing more important to her than her voice.

And she says that in the political process, voting gives people a voice.

Monáe says she’ll be promoting voter registration at her concerts and on her website.

President Barack Obama chimed in by tweeting: “Our right to vote is sacred. It’s the foundation of our democracy. You can find out how to register to vote at Vote.USA.gov.”

The White House says there are 50 million Americans who are eligible to vote who aren’t registered.
