STAR Appoints Former MP As Chairman

Sanders was a Liberal Democrat for Torbay for 18 years. He served on the Culture, Media & Sport Select committee for eight years, where he covered enquiries into ticketing and phone hacking.

He was also part of the All Party Parliamentary Group on ticket abuse. The appointment comes few days in advance of STAR’s Nov. 24 campaign to raise customer awareness on how to buy tickets safely and avoid fraud.

The society, which was founded in 1997, is in the midst of developing a code of practice for online ticket resale marketplaces.

“As a ticket buyer myself, I am delighted to have been asked to play a part in protecting people from ticket fraud and to the positive promotion of good practice and high standards to the general public in the ticket industry,” said Sanders.
