It almost seems like 1980 all over again but with a few new millennia upgrades.  That was the year Springsteen released his fifth album, The River, and toured well into 1981 supporting it.

The 52-track three-CD/four DVD The Ties That Bind: The River Collection includes the original, album along with the first release of The River: Single Album.  The package also contains unreleased material, studio outtakes and four hours of video. Included are two DVDs containing the never released, newly edited multi-camera film of Springsteen and E Street’s Nov. 1980 performance in Tempe, Ariz.

But wait!  There’s more!  You also get a brand new documentary about The River, a coffee-table book of 200 “rare or previously unseen photos and memorabilia” plus a new essay by Mikal Gilmore.

The tour will give fans more opportunities to add live Bruce tracks to their collections.  Each night’s performance will be mixed for release via Live.BruceSpringsteen.net as high quality downloads and CDs.  The recordings will be released within days of each performance.

Coming up a bit sooner than the tour is Springsteen’s Dec. 19 performance on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live.”
