The Last Waltz Relived In NOLA
New Orleans’ Saenger Theatre hosts the superband show April 30 featuring John Medeski, Jamey Johnson, George Porter, Jr., Dave Malone, Terence Higgins, Mark Mullins and surprise special guests. The night also serves as a memorial to the late New Orleans musician Allen Toussaint, who composed the powerful horn charts for the original concert.
Keith Wortman is the gig’s creator and executive producer working with Blackbird Presents, a global media company that has previously honored NOLA’s iconic musical legacy with tributes to Dr. John and The Neville Brothers.
“The Last Waltz” was captured on film by Martin Scorsese at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom and released in 1978. The documentary performances included Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Eric Clapton, Waylon Jennings, Neil Diamond, and a host of others.
