Tennessee Gun Toting Remains

Measures to ban guns in certain public places such as parks and ticketed events are being shot down left and right in Tennessee.

The Republican-controlled Civil Justice Subcommittee voted 3-2 against the bill that would allow local governments to ban guns from being carried at parks and ticketed events.

The Senate Judiciary Committee also “approved measures to allow guns in parks,” “in trunks of cars parked at schools or universities” and “guns at property used by but not owned by schools,” according to the Tennessean.

Republican senators “argued there’s no legal precedence to support banning guns in parks,” but Gov. Bill Haslam disagreed, stating that allowing guns at school events and parks could lead to the cancellation of events for fear of weapons being used in potential escalated situations, the Tennessean reported.
