Eric Hosmer Mobbed By Fans, Rescues Girl After Bieber Concert
The first baseman for the World Series champion Royals rescued a girl from being trampled after she was knocked down outside the Sprint Center following a Bieber concert Wednesday night.
When Hosmer was spotted leaving the concert with several teammates, he was mobbed by mostly teenage girls, with one getting knocked to the ground.
“I think a lot of people caught wind of us being there,” Hosmer said Friday before the Royals played the Minnesota Twins. “There was a lot of excitement, but I definitely didn’t expect that to happen on the way out.
“ … The girl (falling), that happened before we all realized what was going on. Just helped her up real quick, nothing heroic. Just doing what every guy should do – you see a gal on the floor, you help her up.”
Hosmer, 26, was drafted third overall by the Royals in 2008 and made his major league debut on May 6, 2011. He is still adapting to his celebrity status, even after making a daring dash for home in Game 5 of the World Series to tie the score in the ninth as the Royals rallied to beat the New York Mets in 12 innings.
“I just try to come in and be a baseball player,” Hosmer said. “Obviously, it was pretty crazy what happened. The fans in Kansas City have treated me well my whole entire career, through positives and negatives. As far as expecting and knowing it was going to happen, I didn’t have any idea. I guess that what happens when you win a world championship, you become more popular.”
