New Life For Kemper Arena
The city announced May 16 that a selection committee opted for a plan by Foutch Brothers LLC of Kansas City, according to the Kansas City Star.
Official in October 2007. The city received two responses when it issued a national Request For Proposals for Kemper Arena. The other proposal was offered by Steven Brothers Sports Management Co., which owns Genesis Health Clubs in Wichita and a stake in some hockey teams.
It included a junior hockey club and its idea was to use Kemper for other indoor sporting events, smaller concerts and other entertainment, the Star said. The Foutch plan will add a second story to the building and increase floor space by about seven high school-sized courts.
The existing ground-floor concourse would be redesigned for food service with seating space. Steve Foutch told the paper that once all the financing is in place, the project could be completed by the end of 2017 for approximately $30 million.
