Get The Funk! Out With Brian Culbertson

In the announced dates the multi-instrumentalist hovers around the western states until mid-October, when Culbertson plays at the Murat Theater in Indianapolis, Ind., and then runs around the Northeast for about a month, wrapping up with a few Midwestern shows in Minneapolis, Minn. and Detroit, Mich.

The only festival on the tour is the Catalina Island JazzTrax Festival, but prior to the run Culbertson can be seen at the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, Music City Jazz, Blues & Heritage Festival, Capital Jazz Fest, Newport Beach Jazz Festival, Norfolk Waterfront Jazz Festival and Low Country Jazz Festival. Culbertson has announced he will be premiering some of his latest material at the Napa Valley Jazz Getaway, which he is hosting for the fifth year.

The tour ends with an overseas excursion for four shows at PizzaExpress Jazz Club in London Nov. 28-Dec. 1.

Culbertson’s new album is the second of his funk themed projects. Simply titled Funk!, the record hits the streets Sept. 16 and the single “Been Around The World” will begin circulating in July to whet the public’s appetite. Culbertson has been uploading sneak peeks of his new album on his YouTube page.

Most of Culbertson’s studio band for the new album will be joining him for the tour, with the exception of PizzaExpress Jazz Club filling in for Michael Stever on the trumpet. In 2017 he is locked in for the Smooth Jazz Cruise in January, which departs out of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
