Sheeran Sued Over Single

Martin Harrington and Tom Leonard, of the company HoloSongs, penned “Amazing,” which they say they allowed “X-Factor” winner Matt Cardle to use as the basis for his 2012 single “Amazing 2.”

In the suit, Harrington and Leonard claim the choruses of their original song and “Photograph” share 39 identical musical notes. The plaintiffs have contracted the services of attorney Richard Busch of the firm King and Ballow. Busch got the heirs of Marvin Gaye’s estate a favorable ruling in a case against Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke for similarities between “Blurred Lines” and Gaye’s “Got To Give It Up.”

Tactics used by Busch in that suit included questioning Williams’ ability to read and write music, implying that he was incapable of coming up with the melody and rhythm on his own, and questioning Thicke’s drug use and personal integrity.
