“I was very sad to hear that Henry McCullough, our great Wings guitarist, passed away today,” McCartney wrote on his website.

“He was a pleasure to work with, a super-talented musician with a lovely sense of humor. The solo he played on ‘My Love’ was a classic that he made up on the spot in front of a live orchestra. Our deepest sympathies from my family to his.”

McCullough is the only Irishman to have played the original Woodstock in 1969, as part of Joe Cocker’s Grease Band. His own band was called The People.

McCullough experienced a heart attack in 2012 and had been incapacitated ever since. His partner informed his agent, Nigel Martyn, of McCullough’s passing on Tuesday morning, June 14.
