Bassist Mike Chapman Dies
Mike Chapman, 63, an Athens, Ala., native and studio musician died at his home in Franklin, Tenn., June 13.

The bass player recorded on more than 30 No. 1 songs and played on every studio album by Garth Brooks, making him part of the session regulars called the “G-Men,” according to The News Courier.
Chapman started out performing in nightclubs and Muscle Shoals’ studios.
He would go on to work with artists such as Martina McBride, Brooks & Dunn, Trisha Yearwood, Kenny Chesney, George Jones, LeAnn Rimes, and Hank Williams Jr.
He was inducted into the Musicians Hall of Fame this year and was previously awarded the Alabama Music Hall of Fame 2003 musician’s award and the 1993 Music Row’s bass player of the year award.
