Aerosmith Continues Contemplating Farewell Tour

Following another interview from Steven Tyler about Aerosmith’s potential farewell tour, Joe Perry has chimed in about the possibility of calling it quits.

Tyler called in to “The Howard Stern Show” June 21 and declared that Aerosmith is “doing a farewell tour, but only because it’s time. We’ve never done that.”

After Stern asked, “Farewell? Like, ‘We’re gone for good?’” Tyler replied by simply saying, “Yeah.” Then again, he said that the farewell tour was going to go on “probably forever.”

During an April interview with Rolling Stone the Aerosmith frontman said that the band was planning to go on tour in 2017 and noted, “We’re probably doing a farewell tour.”

Now Perry has had his chance to talk to RS.

“It will probably be called the final tour, but I play every night like it’s the last show anyway,” the guitarist told the magazine. “Calling it that will definitely give a different flavor to this. … And who knows what’s in the stars.”

During the Q&A Perry continued to go back and forth about the idea. He said, “I don’t know how it sits with me yet. To actually call it a ‘final tour’ and think I’m not going to look over and see Brad [Whitford] and see Steven out there. It’s really hard for me to imagine that.”

He added, “I look at it more as a benchmark in our career. We’ve done just about everything else, so we might as well try this. We’ll see what happens.”

Yes, we’ll have to wait and see. Maybe Aerosmith will announce a final tour in 2017. Maybe it will go on forever. Or maybe it will be the last full-fledged outing, but the band will continue to play dates here and there.

For now, Aerosmith has a Sept. 16 appearance scheduled at festival in Del Mar, Calif., along with a fall South American tour.
